In 1919, a group of World War I
veterans, unhappy with the way they saw fellow veterans being treated,
joined together to try to make a difference. They formed an organization
based on four pillars - veterans rehabilitation, Americanism, child
welfare and national security. In the years that followed, The American
Legion has not strayed from these founding principles. Everything we do,
every stand we take, every cause we support goes back to the ideals of
our founding members.
